A jury here on Wednesday evening convicted George Huguely V of second-degree murder in the 2010 death of his onetime girlfriend Yeardley Love after about nine hours of deliberations.
Huguely faces up to 40 years in prison on the murder charge; the jury immediately began to consider Huguely’s sentence.
The verdict came after a two-week trial that centered on only about 10 minutes in Love’s apartment during the couple’s senior year at the University of Virginia . Huguely kicked through her locked bedroom door and fought with her in a final attempt to discuss their relationship. Love, 22, of Cockeysville , Md. was found dead hours later.
