Haiti's prime minister resigned

25.02.2012
Haiti's prime minister resigned suddenly on Friday after weeks of sparring with the president of the impoverished nation, dealing a paralyzing blow to Haiti's efforts to rebuild from a devastating earthquake two years ago.
Prime Minister Garry Conille handed in his resignation, the government said in a communique. A high-ranking official said the resignation had been requested by President Michel Martelly.
The prime minister's resignation could further slow already sluggish efforts, largely funded by foreign donors and international financial institutions, to rebuild Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world.
