Indonesia: Citibank's Malinda Dee Sentenced to 8 Years for Corruption

07.03.2012
Former Citibank Indonesia relationship manager Inong Malinda Dee was sentenced to eight years in prison by the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday.
Malinda was found guilty of skimming some Rp 45.8 billion ($5 million) from the accounts of 35 Citibank priority customers between January 2007 and February 2011. She used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle complete with a veritable showroom of luxury cars, including two Ferraris, a Hummer, a Mercedes and a Porsche, and cosmetic surgery.
The panel of judges ordered Malinda, 48, to pay Rp 10 billion in fines, or serve an extra three months in prison.
The sentence is lower than the 13 years demanded by the prosecution.
Malinda's stable of cars, which were bought with stolen funds, will be seized by the courts.
She skimmed the money off the accounts of Citibank Indonesia's wealthiest clients by falsifying transfer documents and depositing the money in a number of accounts, including those of her younger sister and brother-in-law.
