Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta Airport heavily guarded

26.03.2012
State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) intensified security measures in 12 airports across the country on Monday, with Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta (Soetta) International Airport being the primary focus, amid rumors that protesters will occupy the airport to demonstrate against the proposed fuel price hike.
“We have coordinated with the Jakarta Military Command and the airport police. Thousands of personnel from a joint force carried out show of force this morning,” AP II Soetta chapter senior general manager Sudaryanto said on Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The joint force included personnel from the military, the Air Force’s special force, Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit and the traffic police.
Sudaryanto acknowledged that the measure was taken following rumors about a number of protesters occupying the airport on Tuesday.
Thousands of protesters have occupied Medan’s Polonia Airport in North Sumatra since Monday afternoon, forcing some airlines to delay flights.
