Sabahans Wants A Sabahan must sit in Petronas Board of Directors

23.02.2012
We at SAPP have been saying for some time that a Sabahan sits in the Board, which has never been since the inception of Petronas. Unlike Sarawak, which even, has a senior vice president in Petronas.
What has been voiced out by the President of Sabah Oil and Gas Contractors Association (Sogca) Iskandar Malik has been reasonable with regards Sabah participation in oil and gas industries for the nation over the years
The only reason that I can for us being overlooked is perhaps we’re too naive and easily contented. I wrote lately in response to a query if only the agreement between Sabah and Petronas is made to sign today, no reasonable Sabahans would want to sign.
So now foreign contractors would rather pick foreign labourers from Thailand, Indonesia and Philippine and the like. But something is in a mist here, a place like Kimanis and it vicinities have many locals who want to work as labourer but locals have no chance, this is where things are not rightly addressed as far as jobs for the local people.
We are talking about now, not 10 or five years ago, where local now can’t be choosy. Surely projects like this are beneficial to local areas.
If this same kind of planning is happening at the ammonia and urea plant in Kg Banting, Sipitang, that would be another disaster.
Amde Sidik is SAPP deputy president.
